The Far North is one of the regions of Cameroon which offers one of the best panoramas of the country. Then set off on an expedition to discover the hippos of Maga.
Whether you are a lover of wilderness, local culture or simply looking for tranquility, the Far North of Cameroon is the promise of a reality that far exceeds imagination.
Around 9-9:30 a.m.
You meet our travel manager at the airport and you begin the journey to Maroua where you are welcomed by our driver who will drive you throughout your stay. Then leave for the hotel and don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a guided walk in the city where you can visit Tannerie de Maroua.
Leave for a short trip to the town of Maga at daybreak. You will be able to sail in a canoe on the peaceful waters of Lake Maga which will offer you a unique perspective to observe the fascinating population of Maga hippos in their natural habitat. Continue your journey by visiting the local periodic market (if you are there on a Tuesday): an important meeting place for populations where you can discover local crafts, fresh products, and experience the excitement of daily life. Following this experience, the day continues with an immersion in the tourist village of Pouss. On the program is a visit to the famous Musgum huts (traditional cone-shaped dwellings) which constitute a real heritage and architectural wealth of the region and make the village famous. The village of Pouss will also offer you the opportunity to explore the still well-preserved culture of this people and to learn cotton spinning techniques. At the end of the day, you will return to your hotel room and on the way back you can enjoy a visit to the Ziver artisanal forge.
In the early morning, take the road to Rhumsiki. Along the way, you will be able to see the remarkable Mindif peaks, a series of mountains of striking and enchanting natural beauty. The further you advance, the more the sun’s rays gently illuminate the peaks of Rhumsiki, revealing their majestic silhouettes in a golden glow. Once there, you can hike in the Rhumsiki valley and enjoy the surrounding calm and purity of the air. After a lunch break, don’t miss the opportunity to meet the local potter who will share with you her traditional know-how in making clay doorware.
